“It takes complete dedication to what you are doing and the mental toughness to know what you want to go and achieve it.” A quote from Bristow’s very own Liz Waltrip. Throughout her experience in track, basketball, and softball, she has learned patience, discipline, and the value of effort and hard work. She started playing softball when she was four and travel softball when she was ten.
Liz got her interest in softball from her mom and dad. They both loved softball and baseball in school and introduced her. The highest moment in her career has been earning the catching spot for her team in her freshman year. Liz’s favorite moment to be a part of was when one of her teammates, Jazmyn George, hit a home run to walk off of their final game in districts that took them to state.
The biggest role model for Liz has been Ava Yocham. “Ava has been my role model for a long time, and I’ve always looked up to her. It was amazing getting to play a season on the same field with her, and getting to know her on and off the field.” The person who’s made the biggest positive impact on Liz throughout her career is her dad. She says that “he has been there for me through everything. He won’t let me stop and pushes me to my limits every single time until I succeed.”
Liz is going to be a sophomore in high school, and she has already won the 4A all-district honorable mention for for fast pitch in the last season. Her favorite subject is reading and her favorite teacher is her coach, Coach Hannah. Liz says that “Coach Hannah always has his expectations and would be sure that I met them in the classroom and on the field.” In her free time, Liz likes to spend time with friends and family, go shopping, and go to the lake. After high school, she plans to get a division 1 scholarship and go to college to be an MD in sports medicine.
The advice that Liz wants to give to other athletes is “just enjoy it and don’t be too hard on yourself.”
