Addison Alexander is in her senior year at Bristow High School. She plays point guard and shooting guard for the Lady Pirates’ basketball team. She enjoys playing a lot of different sports and says that she has been playing for as long as she can remember.
“My first sports memories started when I played in an all boys basketball league while growing up,” Alexander recalled. “I also played football and baseball.”
During her career, Addison’s game has improved and she has become a key player for the Lady Pirates. Her head coach, Matt Morgan, says that she has made a huge impact on the team throughout her time playing.
“Addi is a four year starter at the point guard position,” he said. “She has 1,065 points after her first three years. She is on pace to become Bristow’s all-time leading scorer. Addi can score in multiple ways. She is deadly from three point range, she can get to the rim and score, and she is one of the few players I have coached that has a really good mid-range game. She has great vision which has led her to be not only the leading scorer every year, but also leads the team in assists. Her great instincts also have helped become a really good rebounder, especially for an undersized point guard. Those instincts have also helped her defensively. She is constantly getting deflections and steals.”
Whether she is playing basketball or just walking the halls, Alexander does her best to be someone that the younger students can look up to.
“I try to be an example by showing respect not only for my teammates, but also for my opponents, the fans, and the game itself,” she said. “I try to be my best on and off the court.”
There can be a lot of responsibilities that come along with being a high school student athlete, but Addison says that after a time, it becomes natural.
“It was difficult at first to balance school, basketball, and life, but it’s just routine now,” she said. “If I’m not in the gym, i’m doing school work.”
