Chandler High School senior Darius Wade has built his reputation on consistency, leadership and a deep connection with his teammates, both on and off the field.
Wade, who plays safety, said the most challenging part of his position is “making the right reads,” a responsibility that requires both discipline and quick decision-making. Those traits have helped define his role as a steady presence in the secondary during his final season.
Off the field, Wade credits his biggest inspiration to his mother. “My mom, always there for me,” he said, emphasizing the support system that has helped guide him through both academics and athletics.
In the classroom, Wade points to English as his favorite subject, specifically Mrs. Brisco’s class, where he has found a balance to the demands of football. When he is not at school or practice, he enjoys “playing video games and going out,” keeping a routine that allows him to unwind.
For Wade, the strongest part of the program is the bond within the team. “Having a connection as strong as brother with my teammates” is what he values most. That sense of brotherhood shows up in moments both big and small, including his favorite football memory: “playing with my older brother for the last time.”
He carries lessons from the game into everyday life. “Don’t let things you can’t control tear you down,” Wade said, a mindset that reflects his approach to adversity.
Before games, Wade turns to music to prepare mentally, noting he listens to “anything by NBA YoungBoy” to get focused. He also credits teammate Clayton Ritchie for making a lasting impact. “Clearheaded and gives good guidance,” Wade said, highlighting Ritchie’s leadership.
Outside of school, Wade enjoys going to the lake and stays active through manual labor, staying busy in his community.
As he looks ahead, Wade said the relationships built through football will last. “They will always have your back and be like a brother,” he said.
