Chandler High School senior Lizzy Kliewer is making the most of her final year in cheer, balancing leadership responsibilities with the relationships that make the season meaningful.
Kliewer, one of the team’s co-captains, said her approach to leadership centers on encouraging others and maintaining the right mindset.
“I’m one of the co-captains, and I try my best to lead everyone and keep a good positive attitude towards the team!”
That positive outlook is shaped by the people closest to her, particularly her father.
“My dad inspires me by always helping everyone else even if he has to put his needs last.”
Outside of cheer, Kliewer said science is her favorite subject. She also remembers a teacher who made an impact early in her education.
“My favorite subject is Science, and my favorite teacher was my 1st grade teacher Mrs. German.”
For Kliewer, the 2026 season carries extra meaning because she has the opportunity to share it with her sister. The experience has given her a chance to appreciate both competition and the memories created with teammates.
“I love getting to spend time with all of my friends! This year is the only year me and my sister get to be on the same team. I look forward to making all the memories together!”
The squad prepares long before the competition season begins. Summer practices and camp help athletes improve their skills while building the trust needed to perform together.
“We have many practices over the summer so we can keep everything fresh for competition season. We also attend UCA cheer camp in the first of June.”
Cheer has also helped Kliewer develop skills beyond athletics.
“It has taught me how it work together as a team and how to be a leader.”
She draws motivation from teammates, including Tenley Tyler and former teammate Macie Davis.
“A teammate I admire is Tenley Tyler, she never gives up on anything and always has a positive attitude!”
“A former teammate that has left a big impression on me is Macie Davis. I only got to cheer with her for 2 years, but she is someone I look up too. She always got along with everyone and didn’t make anyone feel excluded.”
When she is away from school and cheer, Kliewer enjoys family time and visiting a favorite local business.
“I enjoy getting to spend time with my family.”
“My favorite place in town is Hometown Nutrition, they have the best drinks!”
