Bristow’s Mashayla Bradford – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Run Stop

The starting blocks don’t tell the full story of Mashayla Bradford.

At Bristow High School, the junior sprinter lines up for the 100, the 200, and three relays, the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400, carrying not just speed, but something heavier. Something earned.

Before her season even began, Mashayla faced a loss that could have stopped everything. Losing her best friend shook her world and her team. The track suddenly felt different. But instead of stepping away, she leaned in.

“A memory that I will hold on to forever is when I lost my best friend before track season could even start. It really had an impact on my teammates and me. With that happening, I was able to keep going, and I made it to state for all my events.”

Every race became more than a competition, it became a promise to keep moving forward. That mindset defines her. Not perfection, not invincibility, but resilience.

“Even when I do fail or have bad races, that doesn’t define me as a person. Failure makes you better for the next race or the next step in life.”

Mashayla brings that energy to her team. She calls it power, the kind that lifts others up when they’re struggling, the kind that keeps a relay strong from start to finish. Teammates like Ramona Brown help fuel that strength, always there when doubt creeps in.

Off the track, her inspiration starts at home. Watching her mom push through life’s challenges taught her what consistency looks like. And long before high school, a patient second-grade teacher, Mrs. Hill, showed her the value of believing in herself.

“When you see a duck swimming in a lake, they look nice and pretty, but under water their legs are moving fast. Behind every good athlete, they work hard so when it’s time to perform, they make it look easy.”

That’s Mashayla, calm on the surface, relentless underneath.

Whether she’s chasing a finish line or lifting her team, she runs with purpose. And no matter what life throws her way, she keeps going.
