VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?
Kaley: I started playing basketball in the first grade. I went to a really small school that only went to the sixth grade. We had a third and fourth-grade combined basketball team and my twin sister and I were fortunate enough to play on it as first graders my first and second-grade years before that school shut down.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use daily?
Kaley: Basketball has taught me to always try my best in everything I do and never get down on myself for making a mistake. It has shown me how to be a part of a team and how to be there to pick others up when needed.
VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing?
Kaley: My favorite memories of playing have been every single buzzer beater we have hit. From my freshman to senior year, we have been a team known for hitting buzzer-beaters. As I never hit one myself, my favorite part is getting to celebrate those winning shots. It’s so much fun
VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?
Kaley: Representing Stroud High School as an athlete has meant so much to me. Stroud holds very high standards on the character and sportsmanship of their athletes and we all take pride in being able to show that. My favorite part is showing how much of a family we are at Stroud.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?
Kaley: The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me is Skyla Baker. When I came into high school as a freshman, she was a junior. She was a great teammate because she was always willing to help out wherever and whoever she could. She had the best work ethic. She was always setting a good example for younger girls like me at the time.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?
Kaley: My favorite teacher is Mrs. Chace. I have known her since I was little and had her as a teacher during my sophomore and junior years. She is my favorite because she is a great teacher and cares so much about her students. She would do anything for them. From helping with homework to needing a snack at the end of the day, she’s there always ready to help.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?
Kaley: If I could go anywhere for a summer vacation it would be to the Bahamas. I love the sun so this would be a great place for me. I would take my family, especially my sisters, and a few friends.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
Kaley: I don’t know if this counts as advice but I was given a note that says, “‘Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord’ – Psalm 31:24” I carry this note in my phone case to look back on and be reminded that in everything I do the Lord is always with me and to have courage because of that.
VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities?
Kaley: I am also involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, and Junior Chamber of Commerce. I also have a part-time job at Stroud Sonic and am involved in the youth group at Milfay First Baptist Church.
