VYPE: Marley, what was the biggest surprise this season?
Marley Beshear: I’d say my biggest surprise was placing at state. Considering that I got 68th at state last year, getting 11th was a huge accomplishment for me.
VYPE: That sounds like a favorite moment, but was there anything else that stands out from this season?
MB: I’d say that my favorite moment was at regionals when we found out that we made it to state as a team. I didn’t think that we made it at first, so I was really surprised when I found out we did. It was a really good meet.
VYPE: What do you love most about your team and teammates at Mannford?
MB: I love how supportive my team is and the fact that they always cheer for my accomplishments.
VYPE: Which teammate is the most vocal and which teammate keeps everyone laughing?
MB: One teammate in specific that’s the most vocal is my boyfriend, Dayne. I’d say that he’s the most vocal because he cheers me on during my races. Unfortunately, the girls on my team can’t really cheer me on cause they’re also running at the same time as me. The teammate that keeps everyone laughing would probably be Karlee. Karlee is a really enjoyable person to be around, and I think it’s safe to say that everyone else on the team feels the same way about her.
VYPE: What do you think about while running and competing against other runners?
MB: What I mainly think about is stopping and when I’m going to be done. If I’m not completely exhausted yet, then I’m doing the math in my head to see how much longer I have till I’ll be done and what place I’m in.
VYPE: What’s the strength of your abilities and what are you working on to improve?
MB: I’d say that my mindset is one of my strengths. I’ve had some races that I did not want to run at all. However, having a good mindset is what pushes me in my races and even in other situations too. One thing that I’m working to improve on at the moment is my leg strength. I’m hoping that this offseason, I can get in the gym and lift a lot.
VYPE: What inspires you? Explain.
MB: When I first came to Mannford my freshman year, there was a top 10 list for cross country girls. Ever since I saw that list, I knew that my goal was to get on there. By my sophomore year, I was barely on that list. Now that it’s my junior year, I’ve climbed my way up to 4th best. I’d say that’s it’s not the list itself that inspires me necessarily, but the girls on there.
VYPE: Favorite subject in school and favorite teacher from any grade and what clubs or groups are you involved in at MHS?
MB: Most of the time, I like science. For my favorite teacher, I don’t have one. I do leadership council, NHS, and speech.
VYPE: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
MB: If I’m not running, then I’m probably eating. I eat a lot.
