Mannford’s Karlee Christian
Mannford High School junior Karlee Christian is easy to spot on the track, but it is her mindset, not just her speed, that sets her apart.
Christian, a varsity track athlete for the Pirates, will compete in the 100-meters and 300-meter hurdles this spring and is working to earn a spot on the 4×800-meter relay. She said her biggest strength is the ability to push through when races get tough.
“I believe my strength in running is having a strong mindset to keep going,” Christian said. “I continue to work on knowing that me trying my hardest is enough.”
That steady approach has already paid off. Christian said qualifying for state with her teammates stands out as her favorite memory from cross country, a moment that reinforced how much she values the tight-knit Mannford community.
“I love that at Mannford, you are seen as a you and recognized and not just as another kid that they don’t get to know like at bigger schools,” she said. “I love that we’ll always be there for each other.”
Her support system starts at home. Christian points to her mother, Karla, as her biggest inspiration. “My mom, Karla, inspires me,” she said. “My mom strives every day to better herself and to make anywhere she goes better.”
Christian is a well-rounded student who lists geometry as her favorite subject and credits Coach Golemon as her favorite teacher. She is also involved in the school’s Spirit Club, helping boost energy at games and events, and she turns to painting in her free time.
On the team, Christian said teammate Douglas Tingley helps keep practices fun. “Douglas Tingley keeps everyone lighthearted and laughing,” she said.
Through it all, Christian said sports have taught her that progress is always possible. “I learned from athletics that I can always improve,” she said. With another track season ahead, she plans to do just that — one race, and one hurdle, at a time.
