Kellyville boys basketball head coach Trae Fairchild got involved in Southern Nazarene University’s Leadership Program because of its recognition.
“When I decided that I may want to move into administration at some point, I chose SNU because of the program’s success,” said Fairchild, who has earned his stripes as a head coach. “Everyone I had spoken with, including my Dad, had a lot of great things to say about the program.”
Fairchild, who just wrapped up his second season at Kellyville, was a 2018 Assistant Coach of the Year, 2019 Bison Conference Coach of the Year and most recently was named an Oklahoma Coaches Association Small School East All-State coach. He guided the Ponies to an 18-7 mark in 2022-23. Prior to Kellyville, Fairchild was a boys’ head coach at Warner High School.
Fairchild is taking full advantage of his opportunity at SNU, while remaining a basketball head coach.
“The opportunity to learn from current administrators in each class,” he said. “As well as, working with the same cohort throughout the program allows you to meet and interact with future administrators.
“With it being on Wednesday evenings, it does not affect my job as a basketball coach. I am able to earn my degree without sacrificing anything at my current job.”
He highly recommends the Leadership Program to anyone interested in becoming an administrator.
“I would really suggest anyone that is working as a current educator that has an interest in becoming an administrator to strongly consider it,” Fairchild said. “With it having online and in person options you can choose whichever one works best for you. When all of your professors are current administrators you are also learning about something that they are currently experiencing.”
