Sports play an important role in the lives of many student athletes. This is also true for Remington Powell. Sports have taught her how to be a good teammate on and off the court and to strive to be consistent and confident, leaving her with not only great skills for sports; but great skills for life.
Remington is a sophomore at Cushing High School. She has been playing basketball since she was in the third grade, and also participates in track and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The highest moment in her athletic career so far was starting varsity in her freshman year. Her favorite subject in school is is history because she enjoys learning about the events that have happened in the past. Her favorite teacher is her Marriage and Parenting teacher because she feels that her teacher was a lot like her when she was younger and she reminds her of her worth and who she’s living for.
Remington’s biggest role model is her dad. “He pushes me to be the best I can be and is very supportive in everything that I do,” she says. Remingtons biggest positive impact has been her family. She says “they support and believe in me, and give me the confidence to keep going.” Remington’s favorite part about basketball is adrenaline that you get when you’re on the court, and also the community that the teammates and coaches have. Her plans for the future are uncertain at this time. In her free time, she likes to go to the pool, hang out with friends, play volleyball, and cook.
Her favorite moment with her team was when they had lots of team bonding and lots of dance parties at camp this summer. When things get tough, her church community and friends keep her motivated. Her advice to her fellow athletes is to make a goal at the start of your season and try to achieve that goal.
