Cushing’s Max Hoover- Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Cushing Family Practice – Stillwater Medical

Power isn’t just about strength for Max Hoover; it’s about repetition, patience, and the willingness to keep showing up. The Cushing High School junior competes in shot put and discus, events that demand explosive force but are built on quiet, daily discipline. Behind every throw is a routine shaped by consistency.

For Max, the turning point wasn’t a medal or a podium finish. It was something less visible but more meaningful, recognizing that the work he put in was finally producing results. That moment flipped a switch, reinforcing that progress comes from persistence.

“Whenever I first started to see that my hard work and dedication started to pay off.”

Track and field has sharpened more than his physical abilities. It’s instilled a mindset that carries into everything he does, from the classroom to competition days.

“That consistency and practice makes perfect.”

He’s had strong influences along the way. At school, teacher Roscoe Neal stands out, not just for what he teaches, but for how he connects with students, balancing respect with relatability. At home, his biggest inspiration has always been his dad, whose work ethic set the standard early on.

“My dad inspires me because he always works hard with either work or sports when he was younger, and always pushes me to be the best I can be.”

Max also credits teammate Michael Cruz for setting an example through effort and leadership, proving that doing the right thing consistently matters, even on the days it’s difficult.

“I would say that you aren’t always going to be perfect, but striving to be perfect is what makes you better.”

That perspective fuels his competitive edge. Representing Cushing isn’t just about participation, it’s about proving something every time he steps into the ring.

“Showing other schools that there are extremely good athletes at Cushing and proving to them that we are their competition.”

With role models like Ryan Crouser, known for efficiency and dominance in the throwing world, Max continues to refine his craft. Grounded by faith and supported by family, he’s focused on growth and on becoming the kind of athlete and leader his team can rely on.
