Kamden Evans doesn’t back down from a challenge, he runs toward it.
A sophomore at Cushing High School, Evans is a multi-sport athlete competing in cross country, track, and wrestling. No matter the season, his approach stays the same: outwork the competition and trust that the results will come. Whether he’s grinding through miles on the course or battling on the mat, Evans leans on discipline and determination to push forward.
“Something that motivates me is knowing that one day all my hard work is going to pay off for me.”
That belief drives his daily routine. Practices are intense, but they’re also competitive in the best way, especially when he lines up next to teammate Fisher Moore.
“We push each other every day in practice and talk a little bit of crap to motivate each other to do better.”
Evans embraces competition, even with rivals. Meets against Perkins brings out his best, fueled by both respect and the desire to win.
“They are very hard workers, and we always hang out and talk at meets, but it still feels really good to beat them.”
Behind Evans’ athletic growth is a strong support system. His grandfather has been one of his biggest influences, offering guidance in both faith and running. At school, Coach Wade Landrum has played a major role in shaping Evans into the athlete and student he is becoming.
“He has always pushed me to be my best, teaching discipline and toughness.”
Off the field, Evans stays active in his church, playing bass guitar during services and helping run livestreams. Balancing sports, school, and activities isn’t easy, but he’s learned how to stay ahead by managing his time and preparing for busy weeks.
As he continues to grow, Evans understands that competing isn’t just about personal success, it’s about representing something bigger.
“To represent your school and your community, you have to show responsibility, hard work, and a good attitude, even when you have a bad performance.”
For Kamden Evans, the work is just getting started, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
