Cushing High School senior Jordan Kersey has built his athletic career around hard work, consistency, and pride in representing his school. A two-sport athlete, Kersey excels on the football field as both a corner and receiver, while also competing in track. For him, sports are not only about competition, but about the bond he shares with his teammates. “Being out there with my friends and playing alongside them” is what fuels his love for the game.
Jordan credits his parents as his biggest motivation. Their constant encouragement pushes him to grow as both an athlete and a person. He also points to Coach Douthit as a major influence. “He believes in me and my skills,” Jordan said. That trust from his coach has helped him develop confidence and resilience, both of which have been vital in his athletic journey.
One of the highlights of Jordan’s career came during his junior year in a must-win game against Fort Gibson. With playoff hopes on the line, he returned a kickoff that sealed the game for the Tigers. It was a defining moment that showcased his playmaking ability and determination under pressure.
Jordan has also developed a deep appreciation for the unsung heroes of the game, his team’s offensive line. While their work may not always make the highlight reels, he knows their effort is what allows players like him to shine. “They don’t get a lot of attention for what they do, but it matters the most,” he said.
Away from sports, Jordan is focused on his academics and balancing the demands of being a student-athlete. He knows that dedication in the classroom directly impacts success on the field. His faith is also an important part of his life, and he looks up to NFL receiver Jameson Williams of the Detroit Lions, admiring not only his talent but also his posts about God.
For Jordan, representing Cushing means everything. “It means the world to represent the word Cushing on the front of my jersey and represent it the best I can.” With his work ethic, team-first mentality, and pride in his school, Jordan Kersey is a true example of what it means to wear the Tigers’ colors.
