9 Q’s with Chandler’s Royanna Berry Presented by Thompson Insurance Agency

VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach throughout your career and how did they impact you as a player?

Royanna Berry: My favorite coach would have to be my cheer coach, Mrs. Snider. Even in the short time I’ve had her, she’s taught me so much. From working together as a team to helping in my community, and she’s still teaching me new things every day.

VYPE: Did you have any teammates that you admire or that supported you?

RB:All my teammates have had a positive impact on me, but the ones that stand out the most are probably my captains this year, Emi and Anna. They’re such great role models and I still have so much more to learn from them this year.

VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher and how were they influential in your life?

RB: My favorite teacher has been my 7th and 8th English teacher, Mrs. Anderson. She’s taught me so much and has given me so many opportunities to showcase my talents in and outside of class.

VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for the upcoming season?

RB: After I couldn’t participate in last year’s season, I’ve been working to get my strength back up by lifting weights and just being in the gym as often as I can be.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

RB: My sport has taught me that I’m an influence on more people than I know. I’ve never realized how many little girls look at you when you cheer and do the cheers with you, and to those little girls you’re what they want to be when they’re your age.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?

RB: My favorite memory is probably this year’s cheer camp. It was my first in-person UCA camp, my first year to get spirit sticks all the days we were there, and it was my second time to receive an All-American award.

VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this season (individual or team goals)?

RB: I’m hoping to get my jumps higher this year, and to win state with my team.

VYPE: What matchup are you most looking forward to this season?

RB: I’m looking forward to regional and state competition. My school got bumped up a competition level this year, so we’ll have to work even harder this year to win.

VYPE: What are your plans after high school?

RB: After high school, I’m planning to go to UCO to cheer and pursue a career in nursing. And after college, I’m hoping to work as an oncology nurse or registered nurse.
