Bristow’s Finley Tidwell – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Indian Electric Cooperative Inc

When an athlete steps out to compete, they are representing more than just themselves. They are also playing for the name on the front of their uniform. Finley Tidwell is a sophomore at Bristow High School, and she says that she is proud to be a reflection of her school when she competes.

“To me, representing my school and community is the way I carry myself and my attitude in everything I do,” she said. “Not only am I representing my school and my community, but I also represent the Kingdom and my faith as a Christian. The way I act and carry myself should show the light from the Lord in places where there isn’t much.”

Tidwell plays tennis and is a cheerleader at Bristow. She is also a member of the Athletic Leadership Council.

It has taken a lot of work and dedication for Finley to get to where she is today. And she says that she could not have done it by herself.

“It takes sacrifice, accountability, grit, and discipline to be successful in my sports,” she said. “My biggest influences are my teammates because they always hold me accountable and motivate me to be the best that I can be. My biggest role models would be my parents and coaches because they want to see me do well, and they pour their time and love into me to be the person they know I’m capable of becoming.”

Over the years of competition, Tidwell has made a lot of memories with her teammates in both of her sports. But she has a couple that stand out as her favorite.

“The highlight moment of my career is making the varsity cheer team and becoming runners up at state two years in a row,” she said proudly.

Along with being at her best in her competitions, Finley also works to excel in the classroom. And she is thankful for the teachers who have been there for her.

“I think my geometry teacher Mr. Lee has had the biggest impact on my life because of the lessons he has taught me,” she said. “He has faced adversity, and showed me that no matter how hard life gets showing up and showing out isn’t impossible.”
