Bristow Lady Pirates point guard Amiyah Rolland has been playing basketball for as long as she can remember.
“My uncle was the one who first got me interested in basketball,” she said. “He inspired my love for the game from an early age.”
The junior returns after leading the team in stats last year, averaging 11 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists per game as a sophomore.
“Amiyah is a difference maker on both ends of the floor,” said head coach Matt Morgan. “On the offensive end she has good ball-handling skills and can get to the rim with her strength and skill. Defensively she has good instincts and uses her athleticism to wreak havoc on the opponents.”
Rolland credits much of her work ethic to her role model, her grandfather.
“My grandpa is my biggest role model,” she said. “He’s shown incredible strength and perseverance through life’s challenges and taught me the importance of hard work and determination. His wisdom and kindness inspire me every day to live up to his example.”
Family, in general, is key to Rolland’s success.
“My biggest motivation comes from my family,” she said. “They push me to be the best version of myself, both on and off the court.”
Other important people in Rolland’s life include her teammates.
“My teammates mean everything to me. I wouldn’t be who I am as a player or person without them,” she said. “One of my favorite memories from playing for Bristow High School is the bus rides to away games. Those moments were always filled with laughter, music, and memories that brought our team closer together.”
Before every game, Rolland listens to music to get in the right mindset.
“And,” she adds, “I always read a Bible verse for strength and focus. There’s no power like His.”
Rolland also attends Central Tech in Sapulpa, putting in extra effort to grow in education and experience. After high school, she plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
“Helping others and making a difference has always been something I’m passionate about,” she said.
