Youth may not necessarily be a hindrance for this year’s Bristow Pirates, who won over half their games in 2023. “This team will be young after graduating seven seniors from last year,” head coach Garrett Hannah said. “We will be adding eight freshmen that will be very talented, and some may need to contribute right away. “Look for us to be gritty, athletic, sound and hungry to win. We have a lot of kids who have played a ton of ball, and so adding new faces won’t be as big of a deal as it may be to some.” Skylar Jamison (Fr.) is one of those rookies. She’s expected to bat within the top half of the lineup. “Skylar is going to fill in at shortstop right away for us,” Hannah said. “She has all the tools: speed, power, short game and will have one of our best gloves and arms. . . she has the potential to be one of the best players to come through our program.” Liz Waltrip (So.) batted .315 with four doubles and a triple as a freshman. “She stepped into a huge role replacing a senior behind the dish while picking off four runners and catching seven stealing,”
Hannah said. “Liz could move to third as a sophomore depending on some other positional adjustments we may have. She can really play anywhere on the field.” Pitcher Natalie McCarthy (So.) left a good impression her freshman year. “She entered the circle for us a few times and then was a key part of our slowpitch state tournament team,” Hannah said. “She will enter the season as our ace and will shift over to first when she is not in the circle.” Likewise, Joslyn Morgan (Fr.) has made a strong impression this offseason. “Joslyn is another incoming freshman that is going to contribute right away for us,” Hannah said. “We look forward to her being a great teammate for us while also being a vital part of our success within the lineup.”
