Kellyville’s Antonia “Toni” McGuire: Basketball Player Spotlight – Presented by Dough Momma’s Treats

Athletes invest a lot in order to be at the top of their game. Along with the work, they also have people that impact them and help shape them into who they become. Antonia McGuire says that someone close to her has been the most influential in her life.

“My biggest role model is my older sister,” she said. “Growing up, I have always watched people admire her as a person and as a player so I decided that I want to be that person as well.”

McGuire is a senior at Kellyville High School. She is a member of the Ponies’ basketball, softball, and track teams. Away from sports, she is also a member of BETA.

Being able to wear the Kellyville uniform is something that McGuire is proud to do and something she does not take lightly.

“It means a lot to me to be able to get the opportunity to represent Kellyville,” she said. “It will give me something to look back at. I am also able to be a role model for the younger players.”

Throughout her career, Antonia has made a lot of memories with her teammates. But she says that her first year of varsity play would have to be her favorite just from the sheer amount of success she enjoyed.

“The highlight of my career would have to be my freshman year,” she said. “Every team that I competed on qualified for state. It was exciting for us, plus it was really great for me to see what all of my hard work and dedication was for.”

Taylor Todd, the head girls basketball coach at Kellyville, says that McGuire is an outstanding athlete that always puts the team first.
“Toni is a versatile player,” she said. “Offensively, she handles the ball well for us, but also got 200 rebounds last season. She also plays a big role on the defensive end for us, she can guard the point guard or the post player and excels at both. She is a great role model for our younger players. She is a hard worker and is always willing to do whatever it takes for the team to win.”

When she has downtime, Antonia enjoys checking out her social media accounts. She enjoys following different accounts, but has one that she enjoys the most.

“I really like to follow Overtime,” she said. “I like to look at the highlights of others great players and try to get new ideas.”
