HOMINY BUCKS
Coach: CALEB CHRISTIAN
11-3
Hominy enters 2026 fresh off a state championship run and an 11-3 record, but with a very different roster makeup under 10th-year head coach Caleb Christian. “We graduated a lot of seniors off a state championship run, but we’re looking forward to our upcoming Junior and Senior classes,” Christian says, noting that “a lot of young guys that have potential and are extremely coachable” will be asked to step into bigger roles. He expects the team’s overall numbers to be down, but adds, “our team size will be down, but I also think our team speed could be up,” which the staff plans to leverage in all three phases. Christian concludes that they are looking forward to maxing out what they can do, aiming to keep the program in championship contention despite the turnover.
The offense returns five starters and will remain in a spread look with a strong emphasis on the run game. Spread but with an emphasis on the run game is how Christian describes the system, pointing to junior quarterback Parker Wheeler (6-0, 180) as the leader of the unit. Wheeler will be joined in the backfield by sophomore running back Isaiah Hughes (6-3, 185) and fullback LJ Johnson (5-11, 225), forming a physical, athletic trio that Christian believes can drive the attack. Up front, senior lineman Josh Toon (6-0, 220) returns as a three-year starter and key tone-setter as the offense rebuilds around new skill players. Junior receiver Tyce Miller (5-9, 155) provides a proven target on the perimeter, and Christian notes that Wheeler, Hughes, Johnson and Toon “will lead the charge to scoring points” as they use speed and balance to stress defenses.
On the defensive side, Hominy brings back five starters and will base out of an odd front designed to take away what opponents do best. “We want to be able to line up and take away what every team is good at,” Christian explains. He emphasizes that they want to be fast and swarm the football and hang their hat on stuff that really takes zero athletic ability, such as effort, alignment and tackling. Johnson returns at linebacker after making 88 tackles, and senior cornerback Jaysean Reese (6-1, 170) is back after recording four interceptions and 10 pass breakups. Junior linebacker Brock Dyer (5-8, 150) adds quickness at the second level, while senior nose guard Cosheshe Mushunkashey (5-11, 285) posted 27 tackles inside and Wheeler contributes on this side at outside linebacker, where he tallied 68 tackles. With that mix of returning production and emerging playmakers, Hominy believes it can again field a fast, physical defense to complement a retooled but explosive offense.
