Cushing’s Faith Kessler – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Ortho Oklahoma

Faith Kessler has built a reputation at Cushing High School as a tough, disciplined multi-sport athlete, competing in softball, basketball, and powerlifting while holding down primary roles at third base and catcher on the diamond. Her journey, especially as a senior, has been defined as much by adversity as achievement, shaping a mindset built on resilience and hard work.

“The accomplishment I am most proud of is overcoming ACL surgery during my senior year. Tearing my ACL was one of the most difficult challenges I have ever faced, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. In a single moment, something I had worked for and loved for years was suddenly taken away. It made me realize how quickly the opportunity to compete can disappear.”

Softball in particular has given Faith a perspective that reaches far beyond wins and losses, teaching her how to respond when things do not go her way.

“Softball has taught me lessons that go far beyond the field and have shaped me into a stronger, more resilient person. One of the biggest things it has taught me is that challenges are yet to come but they are never the end of the story. There will always be difficult practices, tough losses, errors, setbacks, and moments of doubt. But through every obstacle, I have learned that perseverance, hard work, and belief in yourself can help you overcome anything.”

Her dad has been a constant example of how to handle adversity with the right attitude and mindset.

“The person that inspires me is my dad, he has taught me that adversity is always apart of life but it’s about the way you respond and handle it. He has also taught me that there will always be obstacles, setbacks, and moments that will test your strength but it’s all about your mindset.”

Faith is equally grateful for the people who have supported her along the way. She points to geometry teacher Roscoe, who never misses home softball games and shows genuine kindness, and teammate Gracyn, whose work ethic, positivity, and friendship have left a lasting impression. She also leans on advice that “hard work always pays off,” whether in practice, the classroom, or rehab.

Representing Cushing means setting an example for younger athletes through her actions, commitment, and loyalty, and she is especially thankful for coaches like Coach York, who has challenged her, believed in her, and helped shape her into the person and competitor she is today.
