Junior infielder Brooke Kyser has been hooked on softball since first joining the sport at only four years old. Now a steady presence at shortstop and second base for Mannford High School, she has grown into a player who thrives on competition.
“I love every part of the game; the competition, friendships, and the memories I make that will stay with me forever,” says Kyser, whose parents are her greatest inspiration.
She says the foundation of their relentless support and encouragement has forged a mindset built on perseverance, teamwork, and leadership, all of which guide her every game.
Softball has given Kyser a front row seat to unforgettable moments. During a competitive tournament, the Pirates trailed by six runs in the championship game. With only two outs left, they rallied, scored six runs to tie, and eventually won in the extra innings.
“We never gave up and stayed focused,” Kyser recalls.
Her growth is evident in the way she encourages teammates, keeps her composure after setbacks, and focuses on building a positive mindset.
“I work to accomplish my goals by encouraging my teammates no matter how I’m doing in the game and keep my head up when something doesn’t go my way,” she reflects.
Her team-first approach paired with her competitive nature have earned her milestone achievements, such as a second place finish at nationals and receiving an Offensive MVP award.
Kyser knows that softball, like life, is full of challenges.
“Everyone makes mistakes, it’s how you bounce back from them,” she says, crediting her coaches and teammates for helping her stay focused under mounting pressure. “I remind myself how college players and professionals make mistakes too,” she adds.
Looking ahead, Kyser has set sights on competing at the next level. Playing college softball is a goal she is steadily working towards and with her determination, love for the game and commitment to her team she is preparing herself to thrive in that environment. More than anything, she hopes to carry forward the lessons, friendships, and memories that softball has given her, shaping not only the player she becomes but the person as well.
