Bristow High School senior Eli Knight is a true Purple Pirate through-and-through. A two-sport athlete and a member of the FFA, Knight has made the most of his high school experience.
“I’ve been a Purple Pirate for the last 13 years and it has been incredible,” said Knight. “FFA, athletics, and academics have all played their parts in making Bristow so special.”
Knight believes in making good grades and working just as hard in the classroom.
“My favorite subject through high school has to be history,” he said. “I have had incredible teachers, but my middle school geography teacher, Mrs. Allee, has to be my favorite. I have played multiple sports throughout high school, but football and golf have to be my favorites.”
Playing two sports for Bristow has its challenges, but Knight said being part of the teams at Bristow has taught him many lessons he will take with him into the next phase of his life.
“Having teammates that will stand beside you through failures and achievements is the epitome of brotherhood,” he said. “Bristow football is a perfect depiction of what happens when you have a group of young men with a love for the game, but more importantly, a love for one another.
“Golf has that same team aspect, but it also spurs individual growth. My favorite thing about golf is the way it grows you mentally, emotionally, and sometimes even spiritually. Golf is an extremely hard game and just when you don’t know if it can get worse, it does. I have learned that you must learn to accept those bad shots and breaks, the same way you expect the great shots and kicks.
“I adopted a better perspective on the game when I stopped identifying myself as a golfer and started identifying myself as a Child of God. Golf, along with most things in life, is meaningless in the long run. That is why it is so important to focus on the things in life that are really important such as faith, family, and friends.”
Knight plans to attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University and work towards his master’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management.
