Q&A with Chandler’s Eli Smithey – Presented by Route 66 Bowl

VYPE: What grade are you in and what sports do you play?

Eli: I am a sophomore at Chandler High School where I am on the track and field team.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Eli: Being supported by my community and friends.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?

Eli: Sam Hall, my fellow thrower, is an amazing athlete and inspires me to get better every day.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?

Eli: Ryan Crouser, is the all-time greatest men’s shot put thrower. He has great drive and passion, and he smiles all the time.

VYPE: Who inspires you?

Eli: My Dad inspires me; he works as hard as he can each day to give my family the best life he can. I hope that I can be as good a man as him someday.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Eli: Mrs. Anderson, my Junior High English teacher. She inspired me to show my passion and work hard for my goals.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Eli: Don’t settle for what you can do now; rise to greater and higher heights.

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal?

Eli: My favorite meal is home-cooked gumbo.
