The Kellyville Ponies didn’t enjoy the type of season they wanted in football this season, but that did not stop players like Gage Montgomery from working hard to improve on every snap. Another area Montgomery works hard at is FFA.
“I’m a chapter officer in our chapter and I try to be as involved as I possibly can, but my main FFA activity is showing pigs,” said Montgomery.
On the football field, Montgomery can play multiple positions. Football is a sport Montgomery has played since the first grade.
“This year what I improved on the most was being able to play anywhere I was needed,” Montgomery said. “My highlight for this season was just making defensive plays.”
Now a junior, Montgomery said he joined FFA when he was in the eighth grade, common for anyone who grows up around agriculture or livestock. Montgomery started in 4-H before becoming a member of the FFA chapter at school. Raising and showing pigs can be tough work.
“The accomplishment I’m most proud of is how successful we’ve become in our swine operation,” said Montgomery.
Back on the gridiron, Montgomery said he loves competing and being with his teammates.
“I just tell myself to go play the best I can and be the one that wants it the most on the field,” said Montgomery. “I love how close the team is off the field.”
Montgomery plans to attend OSU for engineering and become an architect. He said he is inspired by his mother.
“My mom inspires me the most off the field because she wants me to be the best I can.”
