Kellyville High School Cheer- Team Spotlight

Each individual on an athletic team has to prepare themselves to be ready to compete. Along with that, they also have to work together as a team and have good chemistry in order to be successful. The Kellyville cheer team’s head coach Jymmi Hampton says that her squad is great at teamwork and helping each other.

“Our team has the willingness to work together and are adaptable,” Hampton said. “They step outside their comfort zone to try and learn new things. They are dedicated and have a strong work ethic. They walk in determined, wanting to be a part of the team, to work hard, and understand nothing is given to them. We have great discipline as we are big on accountability and responsibility, not only in cheer but in every aspect of life.”

Hampton is in her fifth year of coaching cheer at Kellyville. She was an assistant coach for two years and has been leading the program for the past three years. Her assistant coach, DeEdra Palmer, has been in her second year.

The team’s ability to work well together is evident by the awards and honors that they have brought home. The team has won UCA Camp Champions Best Dance, and Spirit Stick, along with freshman Kylina Canales winning the UCA Jump Competition Champ. Senior Emma Duckworth received a UCA award for leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness, and motivation. The team was Class 3A Competitive Cheer state qualifiers and Duckworth, Brooklyn Smith, Emily Carrol, Peyton Denny, Baylee Vinyard, and Canales were all named All-American Cheerleaders.

Senior captain, Brooklyn Smith says that her favorite part of cheering is spending time with her teammates.

“I like cheering on the sidelines during Friday night football games,” she said. “I enjoy that my team is always fun and never has a dull moment when we are together.”

Emily Reed is another senior captain on the team and she says she is proud to be part of the team.

“I enjoy cheering for my school because I love entertaining and spreading school spirit and cheering for my team. I like that everyone on the team tries to do stuff even if they think they can not and has confidence in it.”
