9 Questions with Mannford’s Brooklyn Porter – Presented by Rib Crib

VYPE: What grade are you in this year and how long have you been a cheerleader?

Brooklyn Porter: I am a senior this year and I have been cheering on the sideline for 13 years.

VYPE: What makes being a student athlete at Mannford special to you?

BP: I believe being a student athlete at Mannford has helped me connect to the school and people more than if I hadn’t done athletics.

VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life and why?

BP: A big influence in my life has been my mom (coach), she has been my coach multiple times throughout the years of doing sideline cheer and I look up to her a lot in cheer. She was the start of my cheer journey and I’m glad she can coach me one last time.

VYPE: What clubs or groups are you involved in at school?

BP: I’m involved in multiple activities including, Spirit Club, Spanish Club, Student Council, Reporter of my class office, National Honor Society Secretary, and Varsity Track and Field.

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?

BP: I love my teammates; I love the energy that they bring to my life in and out of cheer. I can’t imagine doing cheer without them.

VYPE: What is your favorite pregame and postgame meal?

BP: My favorite pregame meal is definitely the sushi from Phelps and my favorite post game meal is getting a Sonic hot fudge sundae.

VYPE: What are your plans after you graduate?

BP: My plans after I graduate include going to Oklahoma State University for a major in Aerospace or Civil Engineering and a minor in Mechanical Engineering.

VYPE: What is your job on the cheer squad?

BP: On the cheer team my job as the captain includes being in charge on the sideline, helping with practices, teaching new material, communicating with my teammates and coaches about outfits, and helping foster a positive experience for everyone on the team.

VYPE: How much time do you spend practicing before the school year even starts?

BP: Before the school year starts, we are already putting in about six hours per week of practice time. The new material for the year is taught at the end of the second semester during that period it is about eight hours of practice time.
