BRISTOW PIRATES
Coach: CHRIS COLE
5-6
OFFENSE
The Pirates made an early playoff exit a year ago. But as they begin the 2024 campaign, they are looking to make a deeper run and head coach Chris Cole thinks his team has the players to make that happen. “Given the number of returning starters, our new system, and our strength and conditioning program, this season should be a very successful one,” Cole said. “We have a few players that will be towards the top of Class 3A at their given positions. This puts the team well in reach of our goals: district champions and state contenders.” A player that will have a big impact on the Pirates season is running back Darien Dansby (5-11, 210, Sr.). He rushed for 1,295 yards and 14 touchdowns last season and is expected to continue to be dominant this season. Promised Johnson (6-0, 180, So.) will be a quarterback for the team, and he will have an outstanding group of skill players that he will be able to get the ball to. Cade Williams (5-10, 175, Sr.) and Noah McCall (5-10, 180, Sr.) will both see time at wide receiver and running back. TJ Wilson (6-1, 160, So.) an Hayden Yocham (6-3, 200, So.) will also play receiver this season.
DEFENSE
On the defensive side, the Pirates will look to play physical and be ready for whatever the offense throws their way. Williams and Johnson will both play in the secondary at safety. Johnson is an explosive player that is an extremely hard worker that will start and contribute. Williams will be a three-year starter for the Pirates and has an outstanding work ethic that has helped him become the player and person that he is today. Seeing time at strong safety and outside linebacker will be Dansby. Along with playing football, Dansby is a member of the track team, which helps him with his speed and agility on the football field. Talon Bigpond (6-0, 225, Sr.), Hank Powell (5-8, 180, Sr.), and Nation Johnson (5-11, 200, Sr.) will all three be playing linebacker and working to keep the offense from scoring. Assistant coaches this season are Scott Hall, Cameron Palmer, Jake Avery, Jarod Pitchford, Shaun Roebuck, Tristan Montgomery, Ethan Montgomery, Dustin Daniels, Matt Morquecho, and David Greene.
